National organisations transforming education with their governments
ATAE is open to nationally rooted African organisations that share its principles. Members work inside their country's existing education system, alongside ministries and agencies, and help government put its own education priorities into practice. A member is governed in its own country and owned and led by Africans. It shares ATAE's principles and values, which are set out on the About page.
What members share
Principles
01
Aligned with national priorities, ensuring that all support reinforces government ownership and sector leadership;
02
A whole-system approach that prioritises capability and sustainability, focusing on long-term strengthening;
03
Using data to drive improvement, enabling evidence-based decision-making, continuous learning and measurable progress;
04
Enabling government leadership by providing support within existing systems and reinforcing institutional structures;
05
Committed to robust and transparent internal systems to ensure accountability, safeguarding integrity, trust and effective stewardship of resources.
Members receive governance support from the ATAE Board and nominated members, and quality assurance processes that apply across the alliance. They work to shared principles and standards and join a wider community of practice.
02
Learning and technical excellence
Members can draw on expertise from other countries with a similar vision, including multi-country research, staff exchanges and mentorship from a pool of African expertise. Ministries can learn from each other, and what works in one country can be adapted and adopted in another.
03
Shared systems
Members have access to ready-made finance, operations, HR and procurement structures, with support to set up and maintain a common ERP system. An internal audit framework and financial compliance support sit alongside pooled accounts and guidance on communications and website management.
04
Funding, growth and the ATAE mark
Members can join multi-country grant and research applications and take up technical assistance work outside their own countries. They may also use the “A member of the Alliance for Transforming African Education” mark on their materials, which gives partners and funders confidence that the organisation meets agreed quality standards.
